This SATA to USB3.0 connection worked great for me. I got an internal BluRay R/W drive and wanted to use it with my laptop, so I got this one. The drive will likely draw more power than the laptop's USB port, so you'll need the external power that this adapter provides. Then no problem if the drive consumes too much electricity. The data transfer is fast enough to play a BluRay film. My only complaint is that the SATA connector it enters the drive through is rather unsupported (I put some cardboard inside to keep it from moving). better but more expensive.
