I use it in a 2 to 1 configuration Works as expected. My old receiver only has an optical and a coaxial input. I need to add another optical only device to the system. So I connected the optical cable from this splitter to my receiver and then connected two other devices. As expected when both were connected I got no sound. But it is very easy to disconnect one of the cables. I was thinking of a remote control splitter, but it works. We rarely use a Blu-ray player which I now use a splitter with. On the rare occasions that we're watching Blu-ray, all I have to do is reach for the TV and unplug the optical cable that comes with it. And I get Dolby Digital or DTS in the same quality as if the optical cable was connected directly to the receiver. If your cables are hard to reach or you frequently use both devices connected together, you might be better off using a splitter with separate optical outputs controlled by a remote or switch. But in this particular case, it was easy and I didn't have to spend an extra $20 on another electronic device and reprogram my Harmony remote. I haven't tried it in the recommended configuration. but I suspect it probably works as stated in other reviews.
