I lost my M.2 mounting screw so I bought it (screw-only kits are about the same as this heatsink kit!). gets a little warm and helps buffer the drive from the graphics card, which of course contributes to its own heat. The thermal pad sticks a bit to the drive after use, which I found when I moved the drive to my new motherboard (which came with its own heatsink). Just pull it off carefully and you're good to go. Residual oil can be removed with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol.
