I got this after my original massage pad died after a few years. When it arrived I plugged it in and tested it to make sure it shuts down properly after 15 minutes as advertised as I use it before bed and occasionally fall asleep before moving it. The first time passed out after 15 minutes and apparently never again. I fell asleep and woke up an hour later and not only was it still on, it was way hotter than it ever should have been. I got second degree blisters on my back and neck. I've turned it on a few times since then (without touching my skin, of course) and the first time it didn't auto-off at all. It also gets very hot for the first 5-10 minutes after turning it on, enough to be uncomfortable. This is obviously not safe anyway.
