Fatal Firmware Error does not turn off the radio after the timer is used. I used the timer every day and the radio 30 minutes a day, and I changed the batteries every 2 weeks. When you use the timer function and turn it off, a very faint hiss is heard from the radio. The radio remains on even after the timer has been switched off. It took a long time to figure this out as the noise is only noticeable when it's very quiet and you put your ear very close to the speaker. I have found that after using the timer you MUST turn the radio on for a few seconds and then turn it off. This is the ONLY way to completely turn off the radio. Since then I've been on the road with a set of batteries for more than a month. I have two of these and they both do the same thing so it's not a defective radio.
