We got these because our dog was sliding and scratching the wood on the stairs. Quality is good and I like the look. It was really hard to find something that wasnt prohibitively expensive but also looked nice but these were a winner. They adhere to the wood with 2 strips of peel and stick tape. Peeling the backing off of the tape without ripping the tape off the carpet is a little tedious but otherwise they installed easily. They've held up for 5 months so far with heavy use and vacuuming.My only caution is if you have to remove them, do so carefully. I peeled one up to shift its positioning a little and the tape took some of the stair finish off. If I peel the tape slowly and deliberately, it doesnt seem to take off the finish, however. I don't think the wood on our stairs were properly stained and sealed, so your results may vary.
