I kept a few OBD-II scanners on my wish list for a while but eventually settled on this one for its library of CANBUS codes for mine Car (ML350 W164). It's amazing quality and while it's not perfect I give it 5 stars as it met all my needs and slightly exceeded them. For those wondering, yes it works to read trouble codes for any OBD II vehicle, but it only clears them for Mercedes as that is the option the scanner was programmed to do. Good * You can read and erase most OBD and CANBUS codes for Mercedes. I didn't have anything to clean, but I see an option in the menu to clean almost everything in the engine, radio, airbag, etc. Try to find this option for Merc on any other similarly priced scanner at the moment. Day.* The scanner feels solid and well-made, including the cable and its charging points.* It's fairly intuitive to use. However, you should read the documentation to get the most out of it. * You can track many kinds of data in real time. It's OK * You really should update the software after you get it. The top menu was originally very different from what was shown in the guide until I updated it and after that a lot more options opened up. It is a pity that this step is necessary. I see a lot of frustrated buyers who don't know about this, but once you know, it's worth it. * The menu contains many unnecessary items. I think the developers of the scanner load libraries of code into its memory as they are received. You may need to write down how to get to some of your favorite menus as they may be a bit hidden. I spent about two hours looking at the menu and it could have been simplified a bit. However, once you get the actual code, it's a quick way to find and clean it up. My research is more about browsing or searching streams etc.* Some streams only start when the engine is started, or when the auxiliary switch is on, or when the ignition is off. The scanner usually tells you, but sometimes I wasn't sure what mode the key should be in. carefully. I think the developers will update the codes as they get access to different machines. This is probably why the scanner is much cheaper than the more expensive scanner that could scan any vehicle ever invented. You can always come back to the site and update, although I don't think updates come too often. * As mentioned, you can read generic OBD II codes from any car that supports them, but you cannot erase them. . Also, most car manufacturers have their own CANBUS codes and this scanner probably won't read them either. When you buy a scanner with Mercedes software that's the OEM it works for and even then for the models and years listed. There's nothing I really dislike, and the extra detail in the menu, while repetitive at times, allows you to view and clean almost any code. Given that I might be able to do a repair myself, this really is one of those purchases that can pay for itself almost immediately.
