Review on πŸ” PQY Universal Separator - The Ultimate Tool for Catching and Baffling by Phillip Hoover

Beware of metal burrs, inefficient design, increased maintenance with bronze filter

Well made, durable grass collector. All machined parts are well matched. The inlet and outlet pipes are made of anodized aluminum (no plastic). I wish they had added a dipstick to make checking the liquid level easier (I would use the dipstick hole to pump out the liquid with a stainless steel straw rather than opening the can). Anodized aluminum scratches easily and apparently needs to be anodized a little longer to make the finish more durable. Update: I removed the bronze filter and found metal burrs (see photo) from the editing process. These metal burrs should be removed if they break and enter the engine. I deduct a star for that. Update: The glass doesn't catch oil very well. I placed this jar in line with another catcher, thinking that the 50 micron filter would catch anything the first jar missed. I was surprised it might not catch anything after 700+ miles. A 50 micron filter may work well for particle filtration, but the filter itself does not separate oil from vapors. This bench lacks a proper locking system. All it can have is a simple baffle, which isn't very effective. I deduct a star for that. So why do you need a 50 micron filter if it can't capture oil? This is now an item that you'll need to wash with dish soap from time to time (a maintenance procedure that other banks don't require you to do). I deduct a star for that.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
