I love these cymbals! I've never tried palm leaf plates (probably because I never knew they existed until I saw them). They're a bit more expensive compared to other durable disposable plates, but that's the only downside. In this set you get 24 10" and 8" cymbals for just over 50 cents each. Read on - what you get for that 50 cents is a step up from any disposable plate you've ever used. First, these plates are strong - stronger than any disposable plates I've used. I felt bad throwing it away; I had to resist the urge to wash and reuse it! The liquid will not leak. Finally, and don't neglect this factor, especially if you're using them for guests, they look WAY better than any other disposable plate you can buy. Your guests will be impressed. The final benefit of these plates is that they are incredibly eco-friendly. They are fully biodegradable, which means they dissolve fairly quickly in nature, so they don't pollute the environment. Because of this, it's important not to just toss them in the trash. Dispose of them in the same way as lawn clippings or tree clippings. They are characterized by the fact that they are also manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner. They are made from the leaves of the Areca palm that have already naturally fallen from the trees. The plates are fully sterilized and handcrafted (not sure exactly what that means) with no chemicals or dyes. The manufacturer says the platters are oven safe (? - I haven't tried this and may have a little doubt. They're mostly wood so they won't catch fire?), can be stored in the freezer and can be reheated in the microwave until reheated 2 minutes, they are sealed and cut resistant. I can vouch for everything but "oven safe" in my experience. They're also guaranteed not to break or sag, and I doubt they've had very many warranty claims on that because these panels are really strong.
