I bought a cable tester VDV501-829, VDV Komandir instead of several cheap testers. The POE feature is very useful and the speed test is also a great feature to see what you're connected to, but the probe is essentially useless. The probe is loud and only colors select pairs for you to choose from. I've found that if you don't trace the bundle of wires, unless you hit the tip of the open opposite end, you'll never find the wire you're toning. I have used several other Harris, Fluke toners that perform much better. I have to touch the outer shell of a group of wires to find the right cable. That's definitely not true. Given the price I can't say I'm 100% satisfied. The TDR function needs to be calibrated to be accurate. If you want to test 8 lines without cycling back and forth, purchase the optional Commander™ Test-n-Map™ Remote Kit VDV770-834. Bringing your own costs an additional $150.00. Overall it's well made, comes in a very solid body and gets the job done.
