I was planning on wiring this camera directly to my van's reversing light circuit so it would only light up when reversing. The only problem is that it takes more than 30 seconds for the camera to boot up and connect to my Android phone, so it's not practical to work in this mode. The only way to get a backup image if needed is to connect the camera to an additional 12V power supply so that when the key is turned on the camera boots up and then stays on. BUT WAIT - you still need to launch the app on your phone and wait for the wifi to connect to the app through your phone. (typically 35 seconds). Then, if you don't turn off the car and stop the app on your phone, you can reopen the app and see the backup image immediately. YUK - I don't want to go through this hassle and wait every time I start the car! I have another wireless camera in another car that has a dedicated screen on the dashboard. This camera only connects to the reversing lights and pops up on screen immediately when I put reverse gear - NO hassle, no waiting. Too bad, because the image from this camera is pretty decent; but for my needs as a rear camera, it doesn't start (literally!). Come back.
