Ringing but disappointing, paint is peeling and rusting

My 3 month old puppy had to be shown a bell once and he successfully rang to get out of them. (Ultra Smart Breed) These are adorable and very helpful when your dog isn't barking or when you want to stop your dog from scratching the door. Unfortunately the paint started peeling off the first day and after a few days it was done. rusty. Now the bell in my house is an eyesore and needs to be either repaired or replaced. It was only $5 or so but I'm considering going back to a different brand. I am very concerned that the paint and rust will harm my dog if he taps his nose on it.
