I use mine to connect a Dell U2713HM to a 2016 MacBook Pro. It works as expected, although it took a lot longer to get to this state than I expected. After some research I've found that this particular monitor (and possibly some other Dell monitors) can be finicky if you don't follow the steps in the correct order during initial setup. My advice if you have one of these monitors is to turn off the monitor completely first. Disable it. Press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds. Then plug it back in and turn it on. Then start your Mac. Only after booting should you connect the display cable. There is a handshaking process going on that ran poorly for me the first time I plugged in the cable (due to not fully resetting the monitor first), resulting in the Mac not recognizing the monitor properly and no number of reboots was able to fix the issue. The solution for me was to hold Shift while booting the Mac and boot it into a mode where it could re-detect the monitor. In short, first restart your monitor and connect the cable after your Mac has booted up. . If it's not recognized properly, try booting into Safe Mode by holding Shift while booting and then try again.
