Save your radio codes when changing car battery

I found this product easy to use and met my needs during a recent battery change. In the past, changing the battery required reprogramming the radio settings. I never enjoyed it. I asked the dealer how they could change the battery and save the radio settings - they showed me something similar. Typically you will find these OBD2 connectors with alligator clips or cigarette lighter plugs. I chose the alligator clip version. I use a small 12V AGM battery, a spare car battery, or any 12V source with pins. Some may complain that the cables are too short to connect to another car's battery. It wasn't intended for this use, but a set of connecting cables will solve this problem. It is really intended for use with a separate 12V car battery or any 12V battery you can find in your home security system. It doesn't have to be big, just a good charge of 12v. It's important to follow the instructions that come with it. Once you've connected it according to the instructions, you'll know it's working because it will beep when properly connected. This can be annoying for some, I suppose you can close the car windows BEFORE attaching the device - it didn't bother me as it reminded me it was attached. If I had to use this all day, every day, I might think differently. I change my car battery about every 5 years, I'm fine with the beep. After connecting the device, I was able to change the car battery, knowing that the radio and all other car computer settings were saved. After completing the replacement and disconnecting the device, I started the car and checked the radio settings. I was glad I didn't have to reprogram it like I did after previous battery changes. If your car monitors battery life, you may need to reset the battery management module in the car's computer. If you don't have an OBD2 scanner for this, ask your dealer or mechanic to reset it on your next visit. .
