I recently bought a 2001 townhouse. The two full baths have one-piece tubs and water showers that fit into an alcove, making it impossible to access the valve system without removing the entire system. Unlike tiles, which can be carefully removed and replaced, they must be cut and cannot be repaired without leaving noticeable marks. It is in very good condition except that the fasteners were polished brass. I wanted to upgrade them without changing the valve, which turned out to be a difficult task. Our valve is "Moen Standard" and there are hardly any (cheap) valve kits left for it. However, everything is made of high-quality metal - no plastic. I bought this kit and with this adapter plate my plumber was able to replace everything without having to remove the tub or change the valve. All controls work perfectly. The only thing I did differently is I don't use the shower head. Instead, we installed the shower arm and flange and attached a Delta In2ition dual head shower/hand shower, which completely distracts from the simple lines of the other components and also blends in well with them. I couldn't be happier with the result.
