Review on πŸ”€ C2G 41015 High Isolation AB Switch, Black: Efficiently Manage Multiple Input Devices with Ease by Anthony Shields

Not suitable for my purposes

I bought this high isolation coaxial A/B switch to conveniently disconnect my DirecTV satellite dish coaxial cable from my satellite receiver (along with the rest of my equipment) during a thunderstorm Storm . I have read the answers to the questions asked, along with many of the reviews, both positive and negative. I decided to buy the switch because of the "high isolation" requirement, which would technically mean switching both the inner conductor and the coax shield, and the fact that the picture shows that the connector housings simply insulate against each other can be decided. Not correct! They are closely related. And guess what, transient high voltage on the screen can do as much damage to your electronics as a voltage spike on the center conductor. As one poster commented, the switch is unlikely to survive a lightning strike. Again, your home may not be. However, most of the transients caused by lightning are not caused by direct strikes, but by a ground potential difference of hundreds to a low kV range between two points on earth (e.g. the distance between the ground rod at the input to the power system and your satellite dish ). ). So in most cases a "high isolation" switch would be a reasonable solution for my purposes, assuming both the center conductor and the shield were switched. I gave the product three stars instead of two because it seems reasonably well made and also because I should have known better than to expect anything other than minimal at this price point. Thank you Revain for accepting the return.
