I'm a big fan of the MFT cameras and also a big fan of the GX8. I've had it for a little over a month and I love it. I've used the EM-5 before, which is also a great camera, but videos have always let me down. The autofocus was also good, but never to my liking. I also added a grip like many others to hold the camera better. So, after many great reviews of Panasonic cameras including this one, I dug into them. What struck me when I first turned it on was the menu. I think they look great, are easy to navigate and to me they are better than the Olympus. This camera also feels solid and comfortable in my hand. It's fleshy enough to hold comfortably no matter what angle I'm shooting from. I've read reviews and complaints that it's not as small as the EM-5/10 cameras, but to be honest almost everyone I know uses these cameras, as does most users on the web. It's like many years ago when cell phones got smaller and smaller. In the end they just didn't feel good in your hand and you had to hold them with your fingertips. Oh, and the viewfinder is BIG and very pretty. And the rotation function is useful. Definitely, but not least, the IQ is great. It's different than OMD, but just as good. I shot in JPEG and RAW and both were very good. The JPEG color was nice and can be adjusted if you like it warmer or colder. The raw files offer plenty of headroom in PS and won't disappoint. The camera focuses quickly, faster than the EM-5, even in low light. The dials are intuitive and it's nice to have a large compensation dial. I recently paired it with an X Vario 12-35 F2.8 and it's a great combo. The lens itself is very good and the stabilization combined with the body is very reliable. It's not as pretty as the EM-5 Mark 2, but it's adequate. So finally. Is he perfect in every way? no Is it as small and light as a pocket camera? no But this is a really great MFT camera with lots of nice features in a solid, delicate body. I hope Panasonic and Olympus will continue to innovate and make great cameras.
