Review on Roadpower Tailgate Rear View Camera for Dodge Ram 2002-2008: Black, Car Backup Camera for Ram 1500, 2500, 3500 by Timothy Kiley

2004.5 Dodge 2500 5.9l and Pioneer head unit

I have a Pioneer x3600BHS head unit in my Dodge Ram 2500 2004.5 5.9l. I wanted the system to turn on the camera automatically when I put it in reverse. I also want to be able to turn it on with the switch to see how close that ass is behind me. So my wiring might be a little different than most, but it should work for everyone. They usually connect the taillight (white and green) for power in the taillight or through the trailer connector (purple and black) from the wiring harness. The camera has a release wire! So I used the trigger wire (purple) from the camera and connected it to the reversing light wire (tested with a test lamp and ohmmeter - white/green). This tells the radio (main unit) to turn on the camera. I taped the unused (red) power cord closest to the camera with duct tape. I routed the (black) ground wire near the tail light. In the truck on the head unit I used the power (red) wire and encountered radio power (red) when the key was on the wire. Trigger cable (purple) is used and connected to the main units (rear camera trigger cable is green). Ground wire is also connected to the main unit. Camera Wire------Truck Wire Purple (Release Wire)-----White/Green Reverse Lamp Purple (Release Wire) Near Radio-------Purple and White Rear Camera Wire for Pioneer Red (Power) on closest to the camera - not taped Red (power supply) next to the radio ----- Red auxiliary power supply - the same wire that turns your radio on when the key is turned on. Grounding (black) cabinets to camera - added plug, removed truck livery and used self-tapping screw. Ground (black (next to the radio) ----- Used radio ground wire. Now when reverse gear is on, the camera will turn on and off automatically when reverse gear is removed. In the main unit, I can rotate it by pressing the Turn on camera power button (I had to take the green park wire and add a ground wire to make the head unit display the camera, otherwise just a bug can't front view the video during transmission) Hope this helps the next person
