Review on ๐Ÿ”ฌ Opti-Tekscope Digital USB Microscope Camera: True High Definition Macro 200x Zoom Imaging (1600x1200) with 8 LED - Video & Advanced CMOS Sensor - Compatible with Windows, MAC, Linux OS by Doug Darling

I like the scale but I have two problems.

I installed the camera driver for windows as well as the AMCAP application when trying unsuccessfully to use a Koolertron 1080P 5 inch LCD monitor that I had previously purchased and returned. I couldn't get any software to work with it as a USB device. When I plugged the Opti-Tekscope into my laptop's USB port, it was immediately recognized by the software, which didn't work with the Koolertron. I use Windows Camera with Opti as it seems pretty intuitive and has great editing features like cropping, lighting adjustments, filters and more. The only feature I would like is the ability to rename an image on save. However, this is easy enough to do from Explorer. I really liked being able to open my pictures folder with a single click. I dragged the folder to my desktop for quick access when I wanted to send or move pictures. The Opti was easy to assemble. I spent several minutes focusing until I remembered the focus button on top of the tube. I then quickly focused on my coin. The range of resolutions (up to 1600x1200) available in the camera app was great. Focusing on the scope, I immediately saw the result of the resolution change. There were two things I'm not very happy with. Firstly, the built-in backlight doesn't work at all for me. The LCD ring fully reflects the image and can only be removed by turning off the power. I'm not sure if they're useful for 3D objects like a bug or a flower, but they're useless for flat things. However, I have found that my ceiling light works well most of the time. I can adjust the lightness and darkness with the camera editor and of course I can use the lamp or lamps to add detail if needed. Second, the rod holding the scope is wobbly. I have Parkinson's so this might not be a problem for someone with steady hands, but I think for most people it will be a factor. However, I can focus without too much fuss, and once it's set it stays on for all my coins. Since I'm using 1600x1200 resolution, I simply crop each coin and get a very sharp image despite its size. Despite these shortcomings, I recommend this scope. It was a lot cheaper than the Koolertron and worked a lot better for me for my needs.

Pros
