Excellent, but. - my new review

OK, this set is a bargain at the price, but you are kind of at a loss if you are a novice with a telescope. This set will pretty much see you through whatever viewing you want to do, although a 4 or 3mm lens would give you more magnification, if you want it later on.This set doesn't come with either a list of the contents or any sort of description of what you have. The video at the company website is sort of helpful, but not as much as I want to know about what these do. Actually, the Orion…

Pros
  • Great product, fun times are being had by all.
Cons
  • The included eyepieces are not suitable for every stargazing need

Good starter kit - my new review

I wanted to avoid accessory fever with my new SkyQuest XT8 but after a few nights of observing I decided I need more eye pieces and filters to get the most out of the scope. I was on the wire between this and the similar Celestron version with an extra eye piece/filter or two for $30 less. I did a bit of research and felt that the quality of this kit must be better. Reviews mentioned that the Barlows in the Celestron kit essentially duplicated a lot of the larger eye pieces and others mentioned

Pros
  • Purchased for my son's Orion telescope and he loves them
Cons
  • The included carrying case is not very durable

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent for the price.

Not bad. I picked up this kit to replace the eyepieces that came with my Celestron 130 SLT telescope. They'll fit into any scope that has a 1.25 socket or adapter. The views are pretty clear and 52 degrees wide. The 5 eyepieces will double with the use of a barlow but you might not find much use for a barlowed 6.5 (might be too much magnification). The moon filter is pretty good and knocks a lot of the brightness down. The other filters don't do much other than change the color. It's supposed…

Pros
  • Good kit works great
Cons
  • The kit is quite expensive for what it offers

Great lens kit for the price.

Received this lens kit in excellent condition and quickly. I never used a reflector telescope before until now. I just have a small 900x114mm telescope. But with this lens kit make a lot more expandable use of this telescope at a affordable price. The lens are really nicely polished and lots of choices for a beginner. What is really nice the lens kit can be used on any 1,25 in lens piece. Just got this lens kit and only used it once, too cold out at night for now. Great

Pros
  • 8890
Cons
  • The kit requires a good understanding of astronomy to use properly

Love the product: my feedback

Love the product. No issues with the lenses themselves. However, the case was slightly banged up probably due to the fact that it's manufactured out of cheap materials. Other than that, the lens, filters, everything came well packed and I have used them all and found no issues. Highly recommended. Also, as a person who lives in New Zealand, the package came really fast. Took 3 days and it was here. Very impressed.

Pros
  • 12.5 x 11.5 x 5.5 inches
Cons
  • The kit is not very portable due to its size and weight

Got this kit with the 8 " Dobsonian

And I am so glad I did. I love the telescope. I see things I never knew existed. At one point we saw a planet and rings so clearly, we almos

Pros
  • Really like this kit because I can store all my lenses in it. Room to put additional lenses i had.
Cons
  • The kit only supports 1.25-inch telescopes; those with larger apertures will be out of luck

Great set of lenses and filters - nice case too!

Great set of lenses for use with my telescope - used them to see the Moon and Jupiter so far! Show nice, clear images! I wish there was a guide included in the set telling you how best to use everything, especially the filters (yes, you can find the info easily online, but it would be nice to include it in the kit).

Pros
  • With this kit, you'll be able to capture stunning astrophotography images
Cons
  • The kit may not be compatible with all types of telescopes

Wonderful little set for what I use it for.

I purchased this kit for a few reasons; carrying case which includes extra room, an array of colored filters, and the range of eye pieces and the barlow lens. Overall, for what I use it for, it is an excellent little set. There are also reasons not to buy this set as there are much better eye pieces out there. It really comes down to budget and what you are looking to accomplish. I use this set for some of my easily transportable telescopes and cheaper telescopes. For what you get in this kit…

Pros
  • The silver finish adds a touch of elegance to your telescope setup
Cons
  • The kit's included finder scope may be difficult to align

Needs more space for other stuff

I'm not going to talk much about the lenses and filters. I'm a beginner, so lacking in experience. But so far, so good. I think this is teaching me the value of lower-magnification, wide angle viewing . . . or at least the difference. My beef (small) is that they didn't include more space for other accessories. I would have preferred something with a few more spaces for existing lenses, batteries, etc. Not a deal breaker.

Pros
  • Includes 5 Sirius plods telescope eyepieces - 40mm, 17mm, 10mm, 7.5mm, and 6.3mm focal lengths for viewing at five different magnification
Cons
  • The kit's focusers may not be precise enough for certain applications

Great product good for me

Let me say these are great! They fit perfect and can be used by beginners. The thickness and quality are amazing. I highly recommend these.

Pros
  • Take your stargazing to the next level with this premium accessory kit from Orion
Cons
  • The kit's components may have a short lifespan due to suboptimal materials

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good not spectacular but for price its expected.

Havnt used the filters yet, mostly because there is no instruction manual or guide on their best uses. The lenses are good quality and the strongest lens coupled with the 2x magnifier attachment allowed me to see saturn very well. So well in fact that I had to constantly adjust my telescope in order to keep it in view. For its price, it is a good beginner kit to add to your telescope but for more advanced desires, I would spend the additional money on more expensive lenses.

Pros
  • A powerful shorty 2x Barlow lens doubles the magnification of any inserted 1.25 inch eyepiece, providing a wide variety of magnification options With the included eyepieces, as well as any other 1.25 inch eyepiece you already own
Cons
  • The kit may not be suitable for deep-space observation

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really loving the variety and the case

The eyepiece selection is awesome, I have been combining them with the Barlow trying to find out what works best. The wide angle one is especially good for my startblast 4.5. However the filters I have been at a loss with so far. They just tint everything a different color. I haven't really noticed any difference using them with Jupiter but the neutral density is good for the moon when it is too bright to look at. Being a newbie to astronomy I really learned what eye relief was with these also.

Pros
  • This kit is compatible with most Orion telescopes and accessories
Cons
  • The kit is not appropriate for beginners due to its complexity

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great kit! on my review.

This is a must have for anyone getting into astronomy! You will not need to buy any more eyepeices when you get this kit. the neutral density filter works really well when you look at the moon, makes it bearable to watch! The only downside is that the other colored filters don't help too much. They give whatever you're gazing at a different color, but does not make the features of the object much more vibrant. Get it for the eyepieces, but don't expect to be amazed by the color filters.

Pros
  • No
Cons
  • The kit does not come with a manual to explain its use

Case was broken in my review

Have yet to test the lenses or filters (nonstop cloudy days), but I figured I'd give my review now because the case came broken, which was a huge disappointment. I had seen this happening a few times in the reviews here, but the lenses and filters are a must for me, as my only high-mag lens is the cross-haired 12.5mm Plossl (covered in black specs for some reason) that came with my telescope. I was excited to both have a new set of lenses to experiment with, and have a nice case in which to…

Pros
  • Reflectors
Cons
  • The kit's included hybrid diagonal may produce poor image quality

Nice for the price: my feedback

This lens kit is a great way to save money , as a beginner I think Orion should include an instruction book to explaine what each lens and filter should be used for. It is a beginner kit so it only makes sense to have a book to explaine how to use the kit. I gave the kit value a 5 star rating as it deserves. I give Orion a 0 for not including instructions on how to use the kit.

Pros
  • Using this accessory kit can help you spot details on celestial objects that you may have otherwise missed
Cons
  • The kit's eyepieces may not be very comfortable to use for long periods

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best value for a beginner

As a beginner to a telescope, I knew I would want more than just the 25mm eyepiece (EP) that came with my 8" Orion Dobsonian. This kit from Orion is the PERFECT fit for someone like me. The planetary and moon filters, along with the various magnifications from the multiple eyepieces give you a lot of versatility. The 40mm EP is great for wide views and helping make the first identification of your observation target. As the focal lengths decrease and magnification increases, the exit pupil (size

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Users may find the kit difficult to assemble

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Better than expected

I've been reading up on eye pieces and know that cheaper is not better. But for the sake of adding EPs to my collection I decided to try this one out. I was suprised by the quality of the lens and how good details jumped out. The 40mm has great picture quality and has great detail on the moon and star clusters. The 17mm was actually better than the 10mm Celestron that I got with my telescope because I could actually see the rings around Jupiter. The 6.3mm however was the only downfall. Jupiter…

Pros
  • The lens cleaning cloth included in the kit helps to keep your optics clean and clear
Cons
  • The kit's components may be difficult to replace if they break or wear out

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Should be the next purchase after your telescope

This is a really great collection of eyepieces and filters for a telescope. The eyepieces are high quality and once you spend a little time with a telescope you know having range of eyepieces is essential. The neutral density filter is a must have for viewing the moon - a telescope overwhelms your eye with light. And the color filters do bring out different aspects of the planets. I would prefer they had included a "city lights” light blue filter instead of either the red or orange. The box is…

Pros
  • 3.94 pounds
Cons
  • The kit lacks a dew shield for protecting the telescope from dew

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent kit for the money

I bought this kit with the StarBlast 4.5 Equatorial Reflector Telescope at the same time, right before Thanksgiving of 2013. The kit is more intensive than a new user needs or can use, but as I become more acclimated to the whole experience, I realize the kit is a much needed tool for stargazing, planet viewing or moon watching. My kit had an included moon filter and a 2x Shorty Barlow Lens, both of which I have used and can say with total honesty - cool! Included color filters are used to…

Pros
  • Also includes 6 eyepiece filters - 5 Color planetary filters and a 13 percent transmission neutral-density Moon filter enhance views of our nearest celestial neighbors when they are attached to any 1.25 inch eyepiece
Cons
  • The kit includes unnecessary accessories that take up valuable space

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product for my opinion

All of Orion's products are well made that I've purchased so far and I am very pleased with this set. I had some cheap eyepieces that came with my 10+ year old 102mm scope and these are SO much better. The quality of the case better than expected and very attractive. All the lenses fit snugly as do the filters with the ability to add more. The eyepieces are solid and provide bright crisp views even able to resolve Sirius' double. The options for different zooms has been very helpful with the…

Pros
  • Camera & Photo
Cons
  • The kit's included barlow lens is of poor quality
