This is my first pair of Gaviota but I have had several versions of Arahi. I liked the stability of the Araha but hated how quickly it wore out. I was really hoping that the Gaviota's stiffer sole and added stability would show, but I get more calf pain compared to the Arahis. Part of the problem is that the top lacing pattern is terrible and can't be tightened or loosened quickly. Maybe Hoka didn't expect people to use all the laces, but out of the box they are too tight and impossible to adjust. The laces are ridiculously long too. I'm not sure if the second version had the same design, but we hope they ditch that version and go back to what works. I would love the Arahi upper on the sole of these shoes.
