Review on Watts 500800 Instant Recirculating Install by Ben Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Convenience and Economy

Without a circulation pump, with the faucet or shower running, it can take up to 5 minutes for hot water to reach our upstairs master bathroom. After about 6 weeks of use, I have to say that I am very satisfied with it. I've set a timer to turn on from 5am to 11am and 5pm to 11pm, but it also alternates between turning on for 15 minutes and turning off for 15 minutes at those times . So far I have not waited more than a few seconds for hot water. I haven't seen a full monthly water bill with a pump, but the water savings should be significant. I had a plumber friend who helped me install it, but I figured it would be pretty easy for me to do it myself. I've seen a few reviews complaining about warmer water coming off the cold side of the faucet. The pump moves the colder water in the hot line back through the cold side to the water heater. Therefore, if the hot water faucet has not been used for a while, the cold side will be less cold than usual for the first few seconds, after which it will return to normal cold water temperature fairly quickly. Bottom line, this is a pretty minor inconvenience that's more than outweighed by the benefits. In addition to saving money, it is definitely worth being able to wash your hands with warm water or take a hot shower on a cold morning without having to wait long.
