At least it works. But that leaves me with three main complaints about this thing: 1) It doesn't seem to work with FreeNAS, even in PM/JBOD mode like I intended to use it. It sucks. The things I've read online suggest that this controller doesn't implement SCSI properly. 2) There is no documentation on how the RAID 1 rebuild process actually works or how to tell if one of the drives fails. I assume the controller is telling the OS this, but the OS hardly recognizes this as memory, so should I trust that? I do not know. 3) You just buy a $40 controller and case for it. 170 US dollars actually seems steep, especially since there is no name behind it and it can only be used on Windows. Conclusion? I'll probably ditch the controller, just keep the case, and use two SATA-to-USB adapters to connect drives directly to my FreeNAS. Unfortunately, you would expect FreeNAS to work just fine in JBOD mode.
