Review on High-Performance KYB SM5665 - Black Strut Mount with Enhanced SEO by Shane Mack

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent brackets but need to be installed properly

Bought 2 of these to fit with TRD springs and new KYB struts on a 2012 Scion tC. You must be aware that the plastic bushing must be installed correctly. on a strut mount and both I ordered came with the hub upside down. The flat side of the bushing faces the strut mount and the flanged side of the bushing faces down toward the dust boot and spring. The bushing groove contains a plastic O-ring that may have come loose during shipping. There should be a fair amount of molybdenum grease between the hub and the bracket as the struts twist a bit when the front wheels are turned. The brackets come with general instructions which really just show you how to disassemble a Macpherson strut without it cracking under spring pressure when you remove the top nut from the strut shaft. The instructions do not specify which direction the bushing enters the bracket. The strut shafts are D-shaped where the strut support attaches. Align the D-shaped hole in the stand bracket so that the flat surface on the stand axis aligns with the flat side of the hole. Before screwing the nyloc nut onto the strut shaft, a bushing is placed on the strut support. You must use a new nyloc nut, do not reuse an old one. You can buy replacement nuts from the dealer for about $1.50 each. Not listed in the instructions either. The brackets come with nuts for attachment to the car, but note you will need a 15mm socket for this. They are not 14mm like Toyota.
