Surprisingly good little bluetooth amplifier

Haven't hooked it up to my audio analyzer yet (I'll try to add it to this post when I do) but in terms of listening and the Operation , this little guy delivers. I was concerned about the small heatsink in the TPA3116, but I'm happy to report that after an hour of playing at high volume with a pair of JBL 4310s, the heatsink felt hot to the touch, but not too hot to put your finger on it. When doing real tests with dummy loads and sine waves, I take out a thermometer to monitor the temperature. Sound sounds good - it's quiet when there's no signal, no annoying clicking or noticeable flashing noises when adjusting controls. Minor annoyances: The speaker terminals are narrow - too narrow for wires larger than 18ga (SWAG) without the addition of narrow flat spade lugs. DC power is via a coax DC connector (I had a handy coax to screw adapter) which seems powerful enough, but I'd rather have heavy duty screw terminals rated at 24v at 4-5 amps. I actually use a 19V 5A laptop PSU to power it, so without a real 24V 5A PSU or better I don't get full power (though not by much) . In practice, this thing will run off a bunch of daisy-chained 18650 cells and connect to a homemade stereo speaker cabinet to make a simple Bluetooth boombox.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • A bit torn
