This puzzle comes in a nice sturdy box that opens with a sliding drawer, which I thought was pretty classy. In addition to the 1000 pieces inside, there is also a small poster of the puzzle picture, and a very nice card thanking me for the purchase. When I first removed the puzzle pieces, I was dismayed by how many pieces were only partially cut, requiring me to delicately separate the co-joined parts. In addition, a few pieces I removed were actually broken, something I have never encountered before in all my decades of doing jigsaw puzzles. Fortunately, the broken parts were still attached to the pieces by the last few layers of cardboard on each piece. What a nightmare it would have been trying to match them up if they were completely separated! Needless to say, my first impression of this puzzle's quality was not a good one. That being said, though, I was thrilled to find that, once I separated the pieces that were incompletely cut, the puzzle's underlying quality showed through. Each piece glided into its spot in the puzzle smoothly. With each piece, the fit was perfect and there was no doubt that each piece was supposed to fit exactly where it was. The puzzle remained challenging from the first to the very last piece. Especially in the darker areas of the puzzle, the difference in shading was extremely subtle, even under the brightest light. The completed picture is absolutely gorgeous. This puzzle would easily rate a 5 star if it weren't for the quality issues I first encountered. Because of them, I am reluctantly downgrading this puzzle to a 4 star.
