Review on πŸ“» Sangean HDR-15 HD Radio AM/FM Clock Radio by Tricia Anderson

Great HD receiver, easy for me to set up

Replaced a 15 year old Boston Acoustics Receptor HD that was in a comatose state. Wanted a decent radio with HD FM. This one doesn't disappoint. I was a bit skeptical about VHF reception with only a wire antenna and no external ones. Boston REQUIRES the included wired dipole for wall/window hanging. The Sangean can receive all local HD FM and some remote controls via a small length of cable hanging from the bedside table. Didn't even have to be installed. Also excellent selectivity. AM is pretty good too, although there's local HD AM nearby, but analogue stations work very well given the high noise levels in a typical home. It was easy to set up. Never opened the manual. Even on the lowest level, the display is quite bright. The sound is a small radio alarm clock with a mono speaker. 1.4W nominal power. It's loud but doesn't rattle, well, and a clock radio. Aside from that it has a line out and connects to a good stereo receiver or amplified speakers, this is a GREAT HD tuner for under a hundred bucks. You can also connect stereo headphones to it and enjoy pretty decent stereo sound. Given the limited selection of HD Radios with CURRENT designs, Sangean seems to be the ONLY reputable HD Radio company and I'm glad they keep releasing new models with modern HD Radio chipsets and electronics. The only other options are decade and a half NOS or used stuff with buggy software and first generation receivers that aren't as sensitive, are short lived and don't have factory support.
