Bear Cannister: Bear Protection

They're needed in almost every place I'm now and a necessary evil. I was tired of renting them from the park department so I decided to drop the money myself. This thing is huge and doesn't have a clean cylindrical shape (I guess our friends with non-opposite thumbs will have a hard time dealing with this), making it difficult to carry unless you opt for an extra pocket. I have an 80 liter backpack and it fits in but leaves little room for anything other than a sleeping bag and clothes. However, I can get all the groceries for 4 days/2 people, my Optimus nova stove, GSI Dualist cook set, snacks and first aid kit. The yellow color is VERY bright, you won't lose it in the forest! It has reflective tape down the middle and I've added a few more to make it easier to find in the dark, but it's so yellow it almost glows! Seriously, if you get lost, this thing is a good signal. I hope the bears are color blind. The lid is very people-friendly, but it's not airtight and water can get in when you close the lid. Also a good camping stool. Oh, and it's hard. My son threw it off a 25 foot cliff because he wanted to see what would happen (at the time I wasn't happy seeing a $70 plastic bucket in the grip of gravity) but it didn't help. Scratch Conclusions Pros - Large, brightly colored for easy removal, Lid is easy to use, Sturdy, large opening for easy packing Cons - Large, brightly colored, more required in most areas
