I recently bought a firm memory foam mattress from IKEA (Morgedal) which I wanted a softer top surface for. I chose the cool gel topper as I live in Arizona. The topper expanded quickly and set well within a few hours, had minimal new foam smell and was perfect for a new mattress. I found that a thickness of 3 inches was enough to add some extra softness while still retaining the strength benefits of the main mattress. So far I've found that the top layer does a good job of dissipating accumulated heat and increasing the comfort of my new mattress. I would recommend this product and plan to order another in the future if I need an extra topper.
