Review on πŸ“± TPARTS Magnetic Cell Phone Car Mount: Floating Display Compatible with Model 3/Y β€” A Practical Solution by Jeff Payne

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Such a beautiful phone holder, magnet needs work

Edit: I've updated the rating to 4 stars. I tried the mount with a different case and it holds up well. Didn't inspire confidence in me, but the phone was pretty stable during a long trip. Not a lot of beating so can't say how it will perform on bumpy roads but it seems to be getting the job done so far. Of course, if you stick a metal disc on a case or phone and install it without a case, I'm very confident in its holding power. It is even better to take a large metal plate. I don't know how well a softer nickel will work, so stick with the metals. This is probably the prettiest mount for the 3/Y. The all-metal design and color match the back of the screen perfectly. That's real quality. But unfortunately the magnet is very weak. It barely holds my Galaxy S20 when it's in the case. "Oh," you say, "of course the holding power will be weaker: you have a shell between the magnet and the disc that goes to the phone." Yes, but I have other magnetic mounts that hold the phone securely, even if there is a case between the magnet and the disc. I mean, who doesn't use a case for their phone these days? If you build something like this, it's better if it's durable. All of the other options are cheap looking mounts, but they hold your phone in place without falling off. It's a constructor, but it doesn't do the job it was bought for. Too bad.
