As a decorative item, these coasters are ideal for my large three-wick candles (6x6). I bought a second set as accessories for my sofa and bedside tables to hold a small potted plant and small items. They are made from 1/4" thick hard ceramic with a thin cork surface to prevent slipping. The countertop is beautiful, with true color and a porcelain-like glaze. The pieces are lightweight, but heavy enough to be functional - durable. They have an old world charm and love using them and seeing them in my space.I was afraid they would be flimsy and break easily but I was pleasantly surprised.I prefer cast iron trivets for the kitchen hence I have not used them with really hot pots straight from the stove or oven.
