When I work with fabric I "mark" it for various reasons, adjusting the fit, stitch line, starting or ending point, buttonhole position etc. Of course there are modern markers with "inkโ that will wash out or fade, and I've used them, but lately I've been sewing in stages on my own schedule. Rarely do I complete a project in a reasonable amount of time. The ink fades before the work is finished, which is very inconvenient. So I went back to reliable chalk. Blue for light fabrics, white for dark ones. The chalk makes clear marks that stay in place until I brush them off.
