For outdoor displays like DIY Halloween signs, I use an orange mod podge tag to glue the paper to the wood with a foam brush and then weatherproof the signs with a green mod podge tag. The easiest way to remember is that my Mod Podge Outdoor Glue and Finish has a green (vegetable) label. Oh, one trick I learned years ago is that if you're taking a short break (or even overnight), keep your brushes wet (glue, paint included) by wrapping the brushes and paint tray separately in cling film wrap.
