Review on Pentek EPM 20BB Carbon Cartridge with Micron Filtration by Rui Knain

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Pentek filters always work.

Like all Pentek filters I've used, this one does exactly what it's supposed to do. Before spending a few hundred dollars on a whole house carbon filter, I tried the Pentex Big Blue. It is used to remove chlorine entering city water before the water softener. Based on the rated capacity of the filters, the chlorine levels in the plumbing and our water usage, the filter should last 6 months. Before purchasing this replacement for the original filter (same brand and model) I tested the water after the filter for chlorine. The original filter lasted 6 months and still removed all the chlorine. Over time, mold and bacteria can grow in the activated carbon filter. With the Pentek filter, the body is sterilized and a new filter is inserted every 6 months. Depending on the make and model, a "whole house" system lasts 3 to 5 years before service. In this regard, the choice is easy. The economy prefers the Pentek solution to the whole house solution, as does the sanitation. Whether Pentek is a good solution depends on three aspects of performance. Flow - With the shower running and the dishwasher running, the pressure drop across the filter is less than 1psi. Customs service. Will the filter remove chlorine from the lines at full flow? When using the shower and dishwasher, the chlorine removal was very effective (tested with dishwasher filler). Durability - No loss of chlorine absorption was observed at the end of filter life.

Pros
  • COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION for chlorine, taste and odor reduction and sediment filtration
Cons
  • Some bugs
