Review on ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Finnex Electronic Heater Temperature Controller by Raegina Smith

Great for peace of mind in heated aquariums

If you look at aquarium heater reviews you will find that all of them have a certain percentage of people warning of the dangers of the heater failing when it is on, meaning that the heater's internal thermostat will not turn the heater off when it's on, properly adjusted, and overheating the tank. This temperature controller helps solve this problem by providing an independent temperature sensor and shutdown mechanism. This controller has three wires: a temperature sensor wire that you plug into the same tank as your heater, a power cord from the wall for the control box itself, and then an extension socket to power your heater (i.e. you plug the heater wire into it). ). If for any reason the water temperature exceeds the controller's set point (measured by its own sensor), the unit will disconnect power from the mains plug, thus turning off the heater or whatever you have plugged into it. There are two colored LEDs. The lights on the unit will illuminate: red to indicate the heater is powered and green to indicate the control unit itself is powered (e.g. mains power). The controller's temperature reading seems to be fairly accurate. - The dial is marked in 1 degree increments and you can check this by rotating the dial until the heater LED is off and then comparing the dial reading to a reliable tank thermometer. The device I have seems to be fairly accurate, within a degree compared to the analog thermometer I use in the tank. The only downside I can think of is that the temperature sensor head has a suction cup that doesn't work that well. . After a while it just stops "sucking" and you end up just hanging around in the tank with your own weight. Also, the temp sensor cable itself isn't very long, maybe 30-36 inches, so it needs to be placed close to the object being monitored (remember you'll need a little more slack to get it into the tank). ). Overall I was very happy with it and it was worth the peace of mind it gives me.
