It is better to put in a new battery immediately.
Bought two batteries for my Motorola XTS5000. I work in a busy station and initially the batteries lasted my entire shift with moderate use. After 3 weeks I'm lucky if I run 3-4 hours with the same radioactivity with each battery. If I get a low battery beep I'd better put a new battery in right away or the radio is dead and I won't even notice. I bought them to save some money but they are useless and I should have just bought new ones from the factory. Do not buy.
