Review on Aqueon QuietFlow Aquarium Power Filter Fish & Aquatic Pets by Megan Green

I like the design/position of the motor that requires no primer

Pro: compact, quiet, feels powerful. I like the design/location of the motor that doesn't require priming. Cons: Durability. Purchased on 05/26/2015. A year later the motor/impeller started to seize/stall. FYI, this is in a 10 gallon tank with a bi-weekly water change (1/3 tank) and an OEM filter change every 5-6 weeks. Initially, such attacks occurred every 4-6 weeks. I would have to detach the motor block from the filter housing, run clean water through it and loosen the impeller. I didn't see any debris that could get stuck there. So I held out until December 2016. I love the design so much that I bought a second identical device to replace the first. However, the 2nd is now developing the same disease. I'm currently trying to contact the manufacturer to see their response. I'll edit when I get an answer. Updates 3/19/18: - Manufacturer contacted in January. Your response was very quick - Thank you Valerie! Impeller blades as part of my regular maintenance. I obviously did this because I fixed mechanical pumps in college. Tips for those who are unaware of periodic maintenance: You need to remove ("disconnect") the engine block (which is connected to the wall outlet with the power cord). This engine has a black plastic case (where the intake manifold is connected). Lift this cover and you should be able to see the impeller blade. You can squeeze this impeller blade to pull it out of the motor cavity. Don't worry if it's a little stuck, it's held in place by a magnetic field - you won't break anything. Remove any debris that may be lodged in this cavity, especially if you have plants (I have a java fern which can leave fibrous debris when it decomposes and hits the filter). One day she agreed that I followed the maintenance protocol. , she sent me two new engine blocks (without the whole filter housing). This worked for me because my capital letter is fine. I guess they sent two units because I bought two sets of filters (although the first must be out of warranty). - Upgraded to four stars because they stand behind their products (would be five stars if there were no crashes). ). Let's see how long the new engine blocks last. If there are no more updates/four stars, that means it still sucks (in a good way for a filter :)

Pros
  • Suitable for up to 20 gallon freshwater or saltwater aquariums
Cons
  • Legacy
