Review on Clore Automotive PL2320: Smart Charger, Battery Maintainer, & Desulfator with Temperature Compensation (6V/12V, 20-Amp) by James Trapkin

One of the best chargers I've used

One of the best chargers I've used. The ability to select battery voltage, type and charge current makes this product very versatile, and the temperature compensation feature means the product will not undercharge in winter and overcharge in summer. I really wanted to give this product 5 stars BUT there are some little things that I don't like (I wouldn't call them faults but things I wish were different). 1) The voltage/percentage selector switch is very close to the switch. With gloves on (or if you're not careful) it's easy to accidentally press the power button when trying to press the voltage/percent charge button. I made that mistake once (oops) 2) power cord; While this is a very strong 14ga 3 core cable and not a "low temp" design, it is very inflexible when it's cold outside. They could improve this product by using a low temperature power cord. That would increase the cost a bit, but it would be worth it. 3) The instruction manual isn't very well written (although I wouldn't say it's badly written). There just isn't enough detail on how the charger works, so I was confused when the charger didn't work as I expected. A few emails to the manufacturer's customer service clarified things within a few days, but if the instructions had been more detailed things would have been clearer from the start. A few other things to note about this product: - Temperature compensation is a very important feature for a car charger. This feature certainly works on this charger, although it doesn't seem to compensate as aggressively as some other brands (e.g. Battery Minder). In my opinion, this product is much better suited as a charger than for maintenance. If you are looking for a good service technician, there are devices at a comparable price that perform better. You probably won't find a better device for less than $200.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as others
