Great idea once you get the hang of it

This padding is a great alternative if you hate working with multiples Pins to fight a sandwich made from a patchwork quilt. However, there is a trick to using it and I didn't get it the first time, although I followed the manufacturer's video closely. Luckily I ordered two crib sizes and found out on the second blanket. First you still need to use pins on the edges as they will come loose anyway. It is very important to iron properly. The technique that worked best for me was to go through it twice: first apply the steam to a specific area in a continuous circular motion, then let it cool. Then slowly go over the same area without steam by simply pressing and holding the G-iron on each section for 4-5 seconds until you have covered the entire area. Once cool, check if it sticks by lifting the edges slightly. If it rises too easily, go over it again. You must do the same on the other side. Also check for wrinkles on the back and lift and iron again before they become hard. Creases are more likely to appear if you have a small ironing board, which unfortunately I did. This is by NO means a quick process. But for me it was worth the effort because I have a small sewing area and the batting helped keep my sandwich from constantly twisting and unwinding during the quilting process. (PS: When you first unroll the cotton from the packaging, it may look too small, but it isn't. Carefully unroll on a flat surface and gently stretch to get the correct dimensions.)

Pros
  • Padding is washable with 3-5% shrinkage and can be quilted up to 4" apart
Cons
  • Available in black only
