I installed it a few weeks ago and am generally very happy. It fit into an existing cutout for a 30-year-old 24-inch fixed-burner electric range, and was a lot more fun to cook with than this slow-acting thing. Unlike the other reviewers here, I did my research on induction cooking before buying - in fact, I remember my father telling me decades ago how smart the technology was, so I've long been familiar with the requirements of magnetic pots and pans trusted. . Last fall, after moving into a farmhouse with only electricity, oil and firewood and the aforementioned electric cooktop, I bought a single burner table top induction cooker to see if I liked it, in the Hope to avoid the gas connection. !However, until I found this model I was hesitant to make a purchase as each major brand model among their reviews seemed to have several from people who, having paid 6x the price of this Empava, shortly suffered a serious setback after purchase. The hob was still under warranty. ng that may not last for many years. Then I came across this hob. This hob has one great feature which I believe is due to its low price and which I believe expensive branded hobs wouldn't have (although I haven't used it so can't be sure) - that didn't notice it in my desktop unit: at lower power levels: it turns on and off noticeably. To see this in action, read Bartleby's excellent review of the Empava EMPV-IDC30 30-Inch Induction Cooktop. He or she will play a video showing the pot alternately simmering and simmering about 3 seconds apart. It's noticeable (and annoying) when trying to attempt a low simmer or gentle sear when using a steel skillet (I found tonight sautéing onions that I don't notice when using cast iron - presumably his large one equals thermal mass removes the heat). would probably give the hob 3 stars if it wasn't so damn cheap! One star back for the price. this device (30 amps) but I haven't gone as far as replacing it. In addition, the hob offers the quick response and performance that induction is known for. My husband is amazed at how quickly he can boil a cup of water in batch mode - he says the water boils before he's even finished grinding his coffee. a selection of 24-inch (60 cm) induction cooktops available there in this price range - none of which ship to the US. But that's not Empava's fault - actually, we should thank them for offering us this hob! I hope they will have competition in the years to come. (PS Am I the only one who's kinda glad I had to get rid of all but a small portion of my pans? I got all the storage space back, albeit not by force! :-)) --- --- -- - --- --- --- --- --- ONE YEAR UPDATE: Yes, I still like it. a change in the previous review. Except that the price has gone up, so if I mean famous brand hobs that cost 6 times as much, now it's only 4 times as much. Reading the s review confirms my feelings when I bought it One of the savings is manufacturer support - I would advise anyone ordering this to install and try it during the Revain return period.
