We have an old Shop-Vac Hang Up for our workshop. The canister hangs comfortably on the wall, works well and we saw no reason to change it to a later model. Only once in a while over the years have I taken the filter out of the float cage, put it in a garbage bag and slammed it hard against the workbench (phew! - huge clouds of dust fly out). This removes most of the dust that accumulates in the filter and eliminates frequent replacement. However, this only works until you need it at some point, and I was surprised that the regular 903-95 replacement filter wasn't available last time (even straight from the Shop Vac website). Turns out this 903-98 replacement filter will fit even the oldest Shop-Vac Hang Up canisters. I don't know why they changed the number other than the fact that the filter material seems to have changed. This appears to be an improvement as the old filters were made of papery material and this new filter is less papery and allows for easy washing (but make sure to let it dry completely before putting it back into the float ball cage).
