Excellent little endoscope/microscope

I thought this was a great pen microscope/endoscope. For money this is a deal. The stand is made of anodized aluminum. The finish and handling are rough, but it works. The quality of the stand is excellent for the price. The handles are made of ABS plastic. The cable is a white Mac-style USB cable with a dimmer. The dimmer has a freeze button. The focus ring is at the base of the pen and works quite well. The base measures 5-3/4" x 3" and is large enough to accommodate the largest object seen by the scope (approx. 1.5" x 2"). The device comes with 5 additional attachments in high-quality zippered medicine pouches and a CD. Accessories: (1) protective sleeve for the pen, (2) stepped clear plastic tip to hold the pen on a flat object, (3) clear plastic cone tip suitable for use in nostrils, (4) black plastic tip for narrow necks, which can be used in the ear canal, and (5) a rectangular mirror cap. Included on the CD are several how-to documents, including a well-written troubleshooting document, and two viewers, AMCAP.exe and Ehe.exe for Windows. There is also a Mac folder with the "WebCam Monitor v2" software. The camera works like a webcam, focusing at infinity to the millimeter, which for my computer monitor was a magnification of 200:1. Since the image size is 1900 x 1200, the smallest distinguishable object is approximately 0.001 mm or 0.00004 inches in diameter. I was able to photograph a human hair about 0.001 inch in diameter (see photo below). The photographs also show typical views of the coin and a detail of the same coin. Being able to adjust the lighting with a dimmer was crucial to get good results. I was also able to use it as a medical endoscope while examining my own mouth. This device can be used for various purposes, e.g. B. biology/naturoscope, simple medical endoscope, metallurgy, numismatics, photographing small objects like insects, electronics, viewing hard-to-reach places, etc. The included AMCAP software is a free webcam viewer package that works fairly well and on my Windows XP platform works well. If you are serious about it, you may need a more professional webcam viewing software package.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
