Exceeded expectations

I am very impressed with this scope. I was looking for a low-cost entry-level scope to begin my experience with astronomy, and I started looking at the Celestron FirstScope and Orion Funscope. After reading that those units have spherical mirrors which cannot be adjusted (collimated), I decided to look at the next step of scopes. This scope came with 6mm and 17mm Kelner eyepieces. Supposedly these are not as good as Plossl, but I haven't had enough experience to tell the difference. I did buy a…

Pros
  • Teal color adds personality
Cons
  • Subpar quality control during manufacturing, resulting in inconsistent performance between units

This was my first scope. So I'm no astro nerd expert. But let me tell you, your mind will be blown.Shipped quickly, easy assembly, I glanced over the instructions. trial and error, it takes a little practice to get the hang of this thing if you've never used a telescope. The laser sight works pretty good, for some reason I can't get mine to stay sighted in perfectly, probably need to read the instructions more carefully, but the scope works fine overall. Focuses well, really picks up light. you

Pros
  • 10015
Cons
  • Not ideal for deep space observation or astrophotography

Great new hobby! best in my review

Love this guy! This is my first telescope as an adult, so I figured this was a good "test the water” scope to see if I’d actually get into it or not. Had it for a couple of months now and have used it frequently for backyard viewing. This is great right out of the box. I can see tons of detail on the moon and I’ve been taken aback by star clusters. I haven’t had an opportunity to see Saturn or Jupiter yet, but I expect I’ll have a decent view. That said. I did upgrade a few things.1. The EZ…

  • Optronic Technologies, Inc
Cons
  • Not recommended for viewing the sun or other bright objects without proper filters

Sturdy and worth the money!

Just 3 things first before I get into the meat of the review . I really loved that the StarBlast was calibrated from the factory, for me it was only a little bit off due to shipping bumps. But otherwise I highly recommend not messing with the secondary mirror too much.Always make sure you read the instructions first to avoid being frustrated. And if you do not already, make sure you have a 2mm Allen wrench or (Hex socket). And Once it was all set up; I had a 17mm, 6mm 4mm to work with, having…

Pros
  • Captivating visuals: With the Orion StarBlast 4.5 Telescope, you can explore the universe like never before. The images you'll see are incredibly clear and detailed, providing you with a view of space that will take your breath away
Cons
  • Non-durable construction and easily susceptible to scratches or cracks

Positive pole of battery must touch retaining clip!

I bought the Orion Star Blast 4.5” Tabletop Telescope as a Christmas gift for my wife. It was easy to unpack and set up. The reflector telescope is a beautiful instrument. However, we could not make the EZ Finder II Reflex Sight produce its red dot. A call to Orion Customer Service resulted in receiving a new EZ Finder. We could not make that one work either. Searching the internet revealed many similar and highly negative comments about the EZ Finder II. After repeated phone calls to Orion we…

Pros
  • Substantial 4.5" aperture and fast f/4 focal ratio provides bright, detailed views of solar system targets like the Moon and planets, as well as wide-field celestial objects like nebulas and star clusters
Cons
  • Can only observe relatively nearby celestial bodies due to limited aperture

Surprisingly sharp views

I was expecting a good rich-field scope, which the Starblast 4.5 certainly is. Views of the Beehive cluster M44 were excellent with the low power 17mm eyepiece. The higher power 6mm eyepiece is rather poor (awful eye relief), but using it I was surprised that I could just make out the faint companion of Polaris. A better high power eyepiece (highly recommended) made it much easier to see. Crescent Venus also looked quite crisp, as did the double star Mizar. The secondary mirror came well…

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Non-intuitive controls and adjustments can be frustrating to use

Great for learning about astronomy!

My son's tenth birthday was around the corner and with most kids lack of interest in anything that doesn't have a screen nowadays, the wife and I were trying to figure something out that would be educational and possibly something the whole family could enjoy. Looking outside one evening at the sky, it hit me, a telescope! I had one 30 years prior, so I had an idea of what to look for. After a few days of light research, the Orion StarBlast seemed to be a good telescope to go with. I was leaning…

Pros
  • 23.5 x 18.5 x 25 inches
Cons
  • Loud clicking noises when adjusting focus can be distracting

Great little telescope

Many stores will try to sell you small telescopes in boxes that promise huge sights of the universe, galaxies swirling around, Jupinter and saturn the size of basketballs. Of course, they can't make good on those views, and worse they feature wobbly tripods and sup par optics that if anything will frustrate budding astronomers. Not this one. Orion's StarBlast 4.5 Astro Reflector is a cheap entry level telescope that features great optics, a nice, solid base, and its incredible easy to use. You…

Light weight high quality scope.

Purchased this to replace my son's refractor scope that was lost in a house fire. What a surprise! It comes almost fully assembled and a quick collimation check showed it was ready to use. We put in the 6mm eyepiece and installed and adjusted the spotting aid in just a few minutes.Once it was good amd dark we took it outside and placed it on a table for easy use. Sirius was bright in the sky so that was our first target. The spotting aid proved to be almost dead on as Sirius was just off center

Pros
  • Beginner-friendly: This telescope is perfect for those who are just starting out in astronomy. It's easy to set up and use, and comes with all the necessary accessories. You'll be able to jump right in and start observing the stars in no time
Cons
  • Limited warranty coverage and poor customer service from Orion

This is my first telescope. I did my homework before purchasing and thought this was the best value for money and was a telescope that would be good as a beginner but that might serve me well later. I was correct. It came pretty much ready to use out-of-the-box. All I had to do was affix the red-dot sight and select a lens. I took it out a few times in my neighborhood just to get a feel for it. Then took it to a conservation area away from light pollution. I located Jupiter and Saturn within…

Pros
  • Weighs just 10.9 lbs fully assembled, and stands 21" tall when aimed at the zenith
Cons
  • Optical alignment can drift over time and require frequent recalibration

The Perfect Educational and Adventure Tool

I bought this as a birthday present for my granddaughter. She's six, and this will serve two purposes: 1) get her interested in astronomy, and 2) get me interested in astronomy. It is very easy to assembly out of the box. In fact, there's hardly any assembly. You can be out there looking at the sky within half and hour if you read through all the literature that comes with it--even less if you're in a hurry. This telescope is lightweight, but sturdy. Perfect for the two of us beginners, but…

Pros
  • Reflectors
Cons
  • Prone to image distortion in high humidity or temperature changes

Perfect for Family Stargazing

After A LOT of research, this was the one that had the best reviews and was the best price for what we wanted.Bought this for our 10 year old for her birthday. Bought with the intention that, if she ever grew out of her love of stars, it would be something my husband and I would keep around for ourselves, since we love space and stargazing.Love how sturdy it is and that it is easy to use. Having to use a table isnt terribly inconvenient because its easy to find a small camp table or outdoor…

Pros
  • Low-profile swivel base ships pre-assembled, provides smooth altazimuth motion for easy manual targeting and tracking of celestial objects
Cons
  • Short battery life when using the included LED finder scope

I am a very beginner of astronomy who has been always admire the moon, stars and space since I was young. I am from a small island surrounded by the pacific ocean, so air was so clean and atmosphere was very clear to so stars at night; however, I moved to a big city in a mainland for a job when I became a grown up and started to forget to look up the sky to see stars. Now I am living in Fresh Meadow in NY and fortunately, there is no high building in my neighborhood but everywhere is somewhat…

Amazing first telescope

Ready to be used in just a moment, I can see jupiter and saturn with my own eyes now, very impressed, I am ordering additional lenses to increase the zoom power

Pros
  • Compact grab-and-go telescope designed for entry-level and intermediate astronomy enthusiasts
Cons
  • No built-in tracking system, making it difficult to follow fast-moving objects
