These devices don't last long

I used to be an Uber driver and I *need* a DVR. I have owned a total of four (4) Cobra dashcams for the past four years. Three CDR 840s and one CDR 895. When they work, they're great; great picture quality, sound quality, features, options etc. Trouble is, NONE of these devices lasted more than 14-15 months! They have a one year guarantee. Two, three months AFTER the end of the guarantee, ALL have failed like clockwork! They either don't turn on or don't light up. If left on, recording will stop. Or the display becomes unstable. All sorts of stupid failure modes, but ALL expired just a few months after the warranty expired. It was so consistently timed that I could *almost* believe they were made with a built in "timer" that would turn off after a certain amount of time. (So you'll have to buy a new block!) They attach to the windshield with a suction cup that has fallen off more times than I can count; especially in hot weather. I don't trust Cobra anymore. I bought a Whistler DVR. So far everything works great, thank you. It sticks *magnetically* to the windshield. In fact, the camera itself (in the form of a sphere) is magnetically connected to the "base". If you want to take the camera out of the car, just drag it! NO screws to remove or other time consuming hassles. The "base" attaches semi-permanently to the windshield with a STRONG piece of double-sided tape. The "base" doesn't fall off like the Cobra mounts.

Pros
  • Car electronics
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
