We glued the entire patch onto our leather seat cushion rather than cutting down to the damaged area. I didn't want to expose any potentially damaged material nearby that would collapse and make the problem worse. The color of the patch is a deep dark black and the leather of the chair is a very dark, dark brown. We considered ordering a dark brown patch but it didn't seem like it would fit exactly and black would suffice. The color difference is not obvious unless you look for it. Application was very easy and after about a month of use there was no shifting or adhesive exposure. Overall, we're really happy that the patch breathes a little more life into our chair.
