With heavier items it's always a good idea to find a stud in the wall, but I've still been able to get great results by not finding the stud by using the plastic anchors provided and screwing the base into the wall. For those who say installation is difficult due to twisting, remember that you can't rotate the included tool 360° that close to the wall. The key is to point the tool with the handle as far to the left as possible and then rotate it to the right by pulling on the tool and then repeating the movement over and over again.
