I haven't had any issues with the batteries but I've found that with the slightest load they will fall off whatever you attach them to. The light on the hook is a soft plastic oval with a slit to allow the light(?) to be removed, although I'm not sure if you want to remove the light and leave the hook in place. Eventually what happens is that the light works away from that oval and lands on the ground as you keep walking. So far I've attached it with tape but thought they could be a little more durable. than that. Also, the "light" comes from two LEDs in the bottom third of the plastic case, so it doesn't really light up the whole device. To be honest you can get better light from a standard bike light with a standard clamp fitting. I'll be using it now as it's better than nothing, but I'll be looking for a better replacement soon. The NiteRider usually has some good lights that easily fit on a camelback or backpack.
