I installed it in the bottom of my wood cabinet. It could also be attached to the wall below. Mine is about 40 inches off the ground so a distance of up to 8 feet gives a laser line about 30 inches long. it is the perfect length. The only thing you need to pay attention to is what style of floor/carpet you have. The smoother the floor. the smoother the line becomes because of the corner. I have a medium rug. Therefore, my line isn't as sharp as it would be on a hardwood floor or short rug. I tried securing this with velcro but found that there was too much movement once adjusted. That's why I decided to use a solid screw attachment on the bottom of the cabinet. After adjusting and tightening the screw on the laser. works perfectly! The line doesn't move at all.
