US federal law requires an OBD2 connector to be readily accessible to the driver. You are joking. Audi places it low inboard above the brake pedal, while Mitsubishi Eclipse places it above the accelerator pedal. You can touch it, but you can't see it. You can drive your car until one day you fail the emissions test because the OBD2 connector is damaged beyond repair. Replacing the port is expensive, but this extension lets you move it to an easy-to-access location, and if it gets damaged, a replacement might only cost you $7. Don't forget to buy a Do Not Flush case. I bought 2 extensions and installed them on my Audi A4 Quattro and Mitsubishi Eclipse.
