Review on Enhance Your Gaming Experience with Sound BlasterX G6 Hi-Res DAC and USB Sound Card! by Lonnie Batch

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better than the GSX 1000 in some respects.

I started out with Sennheiser GSP 500 headphones. Great headphones but my Acer Predator Helios 500 laptop couldn't rock them. The built-in sound card was adequate, but couldn't turn the volume up very loud. I tried the Sennheiser GSX 1000 amp. First off, WOW, the surround sound algorithm they have is amazing! But still not powerful enough to overclock the GSP 500, they seemed a little louder than my onboard sound card, but barely. So I sent it back and ordered the Soundblaster G6. Power first, it abounds here, low gain has enough power to push it to a comfortable, slightly too loud volume at 100%. In Hi-Gain mode, it goes far beyond comfortable listening volume. Much more customizable than the GSX 1000. But that's really one thing I love about Sennheiser, just plug and play and it just worked great, performance aside. I didn't quite understand the WOW surround sound feeling that the G6 offers, but I think it enhances/extends the sound and makes it better with surround effects. Also, it achieves 32-bit surround sound, while the GSX only achieves 16-bit. I think the G6 has cleaner sound and the GSX has better surround sound. Perhaps the G6 has the potential for surround sound, but it will take some tweaking across their software and extensive tweaking to find the same sound. But that's really a matter of taste, a lot of people don't like surround sound effects. Where I shoot a star is an overtone. One thing I like is that the sidetone gets nice and loud. The GSX 1000 had two levels, the first being barely audible and the second being barely audible when everything else was quiet, but the volume didn't increase with gameplay, so if there was music or action going on in-game, you could still do that not hear. The G6 is quite loud and can be set to any volume. In addition, there are some cool sound effects that you can add, e.g. a deep voice, etc. However, the sidetone has a noticeable delay no matter what I do. Everything is up to date, latest firmware, drivers etc. I've tried many settings. Disabling the SBX acoustics engine helps a little. Which made me wonder why the side signal goes through all this processing in the first place? I don't need to hear my voice from 7.1 different directions. The sound is better when switched off. Despite this, it has a noticeable lag which is very annoying and prevents me from speaking clearly while using it. I have contacted creative, thanks for getting back to me in a few days. They suggested a reset etc which I have yet to try but they said a firmware update is coming that will fix the local sound. I'm not the only one who experienced this. If this is the case and it improves I will increase my rating to 4-5 stars. If they can improve the side effect situation, they definitely deserve a better rating. and prevents me from speaking clearly while using it.
